Baths and Cupcakes

There is no such thing as too many baths or cupcakes.

Things I have learned at this stage in my life:

  1. You are allowed to make your own reservations, buy your own cupcakes, and even cancel your own plans — know the difference between “self-absorbed” and self care.

  2. The only thing worth wallowing in is a warm bath, weekly at least.

  3. You can never have too many pockets, including free pockets of time. Overfilling leads to damage.

  4. Secondhand shopping is good for your wallet and the planet; habitual online thrifting is not. Daily discounts compound carbon costs. (Addiction confession: ThredUp. Hit me for hacks, but buyer beware!)

  5. On clothes and cocktails (and cocktail attire): one or two maximum well-made classics is plenty. The smoother, the better; blouses and bourbon are best silky; sheath dresses, slacks and scotch stiff but not punishing. Clean finishes flatter!

  6. Is it about killing, or gently laying to rest and learning to mourn your darlings?

  7. Walk, don’t run. Rushing is bad for mood and health. Running is great for reducing ab flab but no one need care about that. (See also, cupcakes.)

  8. Uninterrupted periods of any focused work that excites or fulfills you (whether decluttering / deep cleaning, or composing essays / social media soliloquies) are known as flow state. Go with the flow!

  9. You will rarely regret time spent well in good company/cause, and you can feel what is/isn’t. Take a minute to know the intrinsic value of everything and everyone, including yourself.

  10. tl;dr Take baths, eat cupcakes.
